Camp Redó is a central and diverse neighbourhood in the city of Palma. Located in its northern district, it has the advantage of being close to everything but escapes the hustle and bustle of the city centre proper. It is also a perfect place for city life lovers who also like to be close to nature.
This neighbourhood saw its greatest growth in the middle of the last century, when Palma was expanding due to the increase in population. It is therefore a space with a mainly urban aesthetic, although it has residential areas nearby. With around 14,000 inhabitants, it is a culturally diverse place where there is always something to do.
The well-known "Parque de las Fuentes" is one of the most charismatic places in this neighbourhood. A quiet place with lots of trees, fountains, and playgrounds where children can play, perfect for a stroll or an afternoon. There are a few more green areas within this neighbourhood, which makes it perfect for those who appreciate a bit of greenery in the middle of the city.
Right on the border is the Conservatorio Profesional de Música y Danza de Mallorca (Professional Conservatory of Music and Dance of Mallorca). Various concerts and shows are held here, for example ballet, and it is of course where children and adults go to learn various types of dance and instruments. On the opposite side we find another place of great cultural and historical importance, the cemetery of Palma. Founded two centuries ago, it is home to a variety of styles in its tombs, most notably the modernist style, an environment designed by the great architect Gaspar Bennazar. Monuments worthy of a museum can be found there, as well as the great ficus de la Misericòrdia, planted after the cemetery was founded, which is very popular due to its large size and impressive trunk, which has been compared to a sculpture in itself on several occasions. At certain times of the year you can enjoy a guided tour by a well-known Mallorcan historian.
As far as leisure and sports activities are concerned, you can easily find something to do in the Escorxador, a square with cinemas, bars and restaurants where you can have a drink. It is also very close to Ocimax, one of the best known centres on the island for its cinemas. There is no shortage of gyms with machines and supervised activities and very close by is the Municipal Swimming Pool Son Hugo.
There are several schools in Camp Redó, such as the IES Josep Maria Llompart or the IES Madina Mayurqa. As we have said, we can also find the Conservatory nearby, as well as music schools, educational robotics and even an academy for Public Competition examinations.
The centre of Palma can be reached in about 10 minutes by car or 30 minutes on foot. It has the advantage of being very well communicated with the rest of the city, as several bus lines pass through its bus stops. The Miramar Juaneda hospital and Mercadona can be reached just as easily, although there are several supermarkets in Camp Redó, such as the Eroski supermarket.
Camp Redó is a green and urban place, a perfect place for family life, with its parks and schools, and also for lovers of music and dance culture, being so close to the Conservatory. It is a quieter neighbourhood than the city centre, but without renouncing its advantages, having all the resources and necessities close by. We can find culturally diverse restaurants, health centres, pharmacies, gyms and supermarkets within walking distance, covering all needs.
